Machines eligible for the Sellicks Beach Historic Motorcycle Races will be based on the rules set out in Motorcycling Australia’s rule book for historic road racing and classic motocross (MomS). Click on the link in the right hand column.
But to make things a bit simpler, the Race Committee has produced a Guide To Machine Eligibility, Preparation and Protective Clothing.
The Levis MCC thanks the many people who have been sending in pictures and other momentos of the Sellicks Beach Races.
We've added a Gallery where we will publish the old pictures as they come in.
Don't forget that entries for the historic return of racing to Sellicks Beach will open on Monday, 1st August - and we expect places to fill fast.
You will be able to enter on-line, here on the Levis MCC web site or download the entry form and mail it in.
Work has started in earnest with our team out on the beach measuring out the track and layout of the event.
The annual Sellicks Beach Speed Trials started in about 1913 and soon became the main annual fixtures of the Levis Social Club (as it was then called). The trials were generally run on the Australia Day weekend.
The course was laid out over a 1.6 kilometre (1 Mile) stretch of beach between Silver Sands and Sellicks Beach – at each end, riders had to make a 180 degree hair-pin turn, going backwards and forwards over a set race distance. No fatalities were ever recorded.
The last official Levis MCC race meeting at Sellicks Beach was in 1953. There have been two re-enactments since then (1986 and 1992).
In 2017 we will racing on a 1.6 km (one mile) course with two barrels 800 metres (half mile) apart. The racing will start from the Silver Sands Ramp running south toward Sellicks.
Tickets will go on sale in Sep/Oct. Because of the environmental and cultural significance of the area we are limited to ten thousand people at each day of the two day event.
Entry to the track on the day will be by pre-purchased ticket only. THERE WILL BE NO TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE VENUE.
We are very grateful to the Onkaparinga Council and everyone in the local area for giving us the opportunity to bring this important piece of South Australian history back to life.
There is an interesting web site about the old days at the Speedway and Road Race History page. CLICK HERE
